The Tony-winning musical Maybe Happy Ending welcomes a new Helperbot as Darren Criss takes a nine-week hiatus this fall. Andrew Barth Feldman (Little Shop of Horrors, Dear Evan Hansen) will play the role from September 2 through November 1, 2025.

“I am so in love with this show and with Helen J Shen,” Feldman said in a statement released by producers. “I’ve been a plus one on this Broadway journey from the beginning, and this brilliant team and beautiful company have already become such a big part of my life. That they trust me with this role, and are giving me the ridiculous gift of sharing it with Helen, is an honor beyond words.”

The score, described as “deceptively unassuming by most Broadway standards, is daring in form and resists the temptation to insert blustery crescendos and over-amplification… At a time when it feels like we’ve lost sight of the very things that make us human. It takes two Helperbots to remind us that maybe there’s hope after all.”

This season’s big win almost didn’t make it past previews. “We didn’t know if this show would even open,” Criss told the New York Times at the opening night after-party. But a resilient producing team, creative marketing efforts, and—most importantly—word of mouth for an authentically fantastic show proved the little Bot could make it on Broadway after all.

Maybe Happy Ending plays at the Belasco Theatre.
