Steppenwolf Theatre continues the Chicago-to-Broadway pipeline this season with the transfer of Little Bear Ridge Road, Samuel D. Hunter’s play about an estranged aunt and her reclusive gay nephew. Sign us up for the queer drama!

The play’s original stars, Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock, reprise their roles, with Joe Mantello at the helm. Chicago-based 1MC contributor Lauren Emily Whalen saw the original production, writing for Queerty, ” In a society that seems to decline by the microsecond, Hunter says, human connection is all we have, whether that’s manifested through deep conversations about mortality or passionate exchanges concerning a TV series about aliens.”

“I wanted to write a play about people watching television,” Hunter said in an interview. But it became so much more. Check out the full interview below:

Little Bear Road will play on Broadway at the Booth Theatre with an opening night scheduled for October 30, 2025.
