From corpse to Cruise: ‘Operation Mincemeat’ writers take a break to tackle a Tom Cruise musical

SpitLip's new musical, "Tom Cruise: The Cruisical"

We’ve seen Broadway musicals about Cher, Carole King, The Temptations, and Michael Jackson, to name a few, so why not Tom Cruise? Does it matter that he’s not a music legend? Not to the wildly creative minds of SpitLip, the writing collective behind the Tony-nominated Operation Mincemeat.

In anticipation of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning‘s release on May 23, the troupe thought what better way to acknowledge the “up-and-coming actor” than with a tribute musical celebrating Cruise’s fledgling career, Tom Cruise: The Cruisical?

While no investors, theater, or production dates have been announced, could SpitLip’s latest endeavor gain the same kind of traction as Operation Mincemeat (now extended through February 15, 2026)? Hopefully not! But their quirky humor is a welcome satirical break from all the Tony Award buzz.

Do you think Tom Cruise has what it takes to make it on Broadway? Decide for yourself:
